Q: In the past we haven't
seen the desired results from training. What can Mardac Consultants do to make
the outcome different?
A: This is a common problem.
Organizations need to understand that the real learning happens
outside the classroom when participants start applying their
new skills. Without a built in process of accountability to
reinforce the learning it is difficult to change. The adage
around changing a habit, is that we must practice the "new"
way of doing things for 21 days before it becomes part of our
"new daily habit." There are many ways to build accountability
into the training and we work with clients to do this in a way
that fits into the client's culture and budget.
Q: We have qualified
trainers on our staff. Why should we use an outside firm?
A: You've heard the saying,
"you have to go fifty miles away from home to be an expert."
Well this is true for in-house trainers. They are part of part
of the current culture and carry much of the same baggage that
all other employees carry. For new thoughts, ideas, and other
changes, many times it is best to have outsiders present the
initial training because employees tend to listen more to outsiders.
Our goal is to always work ourselves out of a job by transferring
skills to the appropriate personnel so progress can be made
and sustained over a long period.
Q: What
is your organization's training philosophy?
A: We firmly believe it
is our job to help an organization reach its goals and to work
with the organization to make sure that happens over the long
haul and not just in the short term. We know we have done our
job when the client has gained the skills, ability, and knowledge
to move forward on their own.
Q: What
is the value of using outsiders to help us design change strategies?
Administer employee surveys?
A: Employees are much more
likely to be open and honest with outsiders as long as they
are reassured that they will not be personally identified. Our
way of conducting surveys insures employee confidentiality while
delivering complete information to the organization. |
